Why are there different modes of assignment submission at IGNOU? The student base of the university is spread across widely, both in India and abroad. This makes the University logistically challenged to take all the assignments at one place in one single mode. For this reason, regional centers and study centres have taken the responsibility of collecting assignments of all the students enrolled under their centre. Further, the difference between the logistical facilities available at study centres , makes them facilitate different modes of submission.
Types of IGNOU Assignment Submission Modes for TEE June 2025
1. Online Submission Mode
Recently, especially after COVID-19 pandemic, the university started accepting submissions of assignments digitally for many courses. In this mode, students can scan copies of their handwritten assignments in PDF and upload them course-wise on a google form created by their regional centers. The goal of this type of submission mode is to make sure that students do not have to visit study centres if they are far off their homes and can simply complete the process while sitting at their homes. Currently, only a few regional centes across the country offer online assignment submission facility such as in Delhi, Kochi , Shimla etc.
2. Physical Submission Mode
As the name suggests, this mode of assignment submission consists of handing over the original handwritten copy of assignments and submitting them by visiting the study centre office. It is the most popular mode of accepting assignments at the University since not all regional centres have proper infrastructure to support online submissions. It is also a mode that you can find anywhere across India because all Regional centres facilitate offline submissions. Each study centre follows a schedule of accepting assignments. You can google and check the schedule of your study centre. Some of them are only open for certain hours and days in a week. As soon as you submit assignment, you receive hard copy of Assignment Submission Slip from the study centre.
Our suggestion is If you want to get your assignments evaluated quickly without errors, and if you have the option to choose the mode of submission, always choose Physical assignment submission mode at IGNOU. This means your assignment copies will be transferred faster for evaluation and you do not have to worry about any errors before submission since study centre officials are always there to support you or answer any doubts or queries for you during the process.
This is in contrast to online submission mode which may look convenient for a student to submit but has a bigger chance of errors that could cause delays in results. The errors might be related to some wrong entry done while submitting the google form, no support from study centre sine you’re doing this from your computer, assignment copies might not be scanned properly or might not be in right file format, the scanned copies are also harder for examiner to read and therefore might cause delay in evaluation.
3. Hybrid Submission Mode
This is the currently accepted mode at the University. Most of the regional centres facilitating online submission mode also have physical submission facility available. Hybrid submission is the process where the regional centres at IGNOU accept both online and offline submissions for the assignment. While they provide students with a google form link for online submission, their offices are also open in case a student wants to submit assignment physically by visiting the study centre.
4. Postal Submission Mode
This is another submission mode which is still practiced at certain regional centers across the University. In this mode, students can submitted their handwritten original assignment copy by courier at the postal address of their study centre. We suggest you to avoid this kind of assignment submission mode if you have an option to choose. There is high risk of delays of post reaching the study centre after the due date or getting lost altogether. It will also include postal charges or recovery charges which means that it is an expensive submission mode as compared to rest of the assignment modes available.
