Steps To Check IGNOU Study Material Status for January 2025/ July 2024/ January 2024/ July 2023
Study Material at IGNOU are disseminated in two forms- Hard Copy and Digital Form.
Study Material in Hard Copy
When you apply for admission or re register for a course at IGNOU, you have an option of choosing the form of study material you’d like to receive. If you selected ‘In Hard Copy’, your study material will be dispatched by the University to your registered address within months. The Dispatch time depends on a number of factors such as proximity of regional or study centre to your home, timelines of admission confirmation etc. The earlier you apply for admission, the sooner you receive the study material at home. The closer your home is to a regional centre, the easier and sooner it is for University to dispatch your study material.
In any case, if it has months and you have not received the study material yet, it is good to check its dispatch status. Here are steps to check IGNOU Study Material Dispatch Status:
- Visit the University’s official website here.
2. On the homage, look for Student Services from the top menu.
3. You will see a list of services offered by University here. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find option ‘Know Your Status’.
4. Here you will find options to select on checking study material status for various academic sessions. Click on your academic session.
5. You will now see a screen titled Material Dispatch Status (MPDD). Enter your Enrollment number and click ‘Submit’.

6. You can now see the status of your study material.
In case study material status portal doesn’t show anything, you can alternatively reach out to your regional centre, study centre or write to iGRAM with your concerns. You can also contact the Material Production & Distribution Division (MPDD) at 011 29572008, 011 29572012 or 011 29572013.
Study Material in Digital Form
If you do not want to save yourself from the wait of dispatch system by the University and are comfortable reading and studying online, you can choose ‘No Hard Copy’ at the time of admission. This also gives you a discount of 15% on your programme fees and also lets you study as soon as taking admission into the course. If you have taken this option, the University will not send you anything. Instead, you will have to download your study material from the list above or through Egyankosh.
What Is Egyankosh?
Egyankosh is a centralised online platform created by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) to store all the digital study material and other educational resources at one common place. This digital repository is a home to self learning materials in PDF formats, Facebook live recorded videos, podcasts, research thesis linkages, textbooks for all the courses. The main goal of creating such a platform was to provide students with easy access to all course materials and allowing them to study at their own pace and comfort of their home regardless of where they reside.
Accessing Study Material Through Egyankosh
Below are the steps on how to access and download study material from Egyankosh:
1. Visit the official website of Egyankosh that is the National Repository of Open Educational Resources (NROER) developed by IGNOU.

2. You will see the homepage. On left side of the screen , look for Self Learning Material (SLM) under Communities in Egyankosh.

3. Every course at IGNOU is a part of a particular school. Select the school that your course is part of. If you are not sure of the school that your course belongs to, you can look for the same in your Admission status in Programme Details.

4. Once you have selected the school, select the level of your programme. For example: BLIS, BCA, BSCG, BAG etc. are part of Bachelor’s Degree Programmes, similarly, MCA, MLIS, MEG, MPS are part of Masters’ Degree Programmes.

5. Next, choose ‘Current’ to access the latest study material as per updated syllabus. The University keeps modifying syllabus and the updated study material is usually found in ‘Current’ section. This is different from archived as some courses are shut for further sessions, but their last batch is yet to graduate.

6. Select your course and you can now access study material for all subjects at one place.

7. Make sure to save their PDF at one location in your computer for future use. We usually recommend students to download the study material as many a times, the website crashes and study material becomes unavailable for a certain time period. This is usually more common during Term End Examinations since the traffic load on the website is pretty high. This might affect a student’s studies at crucial time.
You can also check a Programme Guide available in your study material that gives an overall gist of the programme and the program structure for entire course. They also provide details on how to use the existing study material available.
You can also look for FB Recorder Live Videos, SWAYAM course content, Youtube videos, IJOL (Indian Journal of Open Learning), University Publications and Swayam Prabha Channels related to topics in your course on the homepage under the Communities in Egyankosh.
How To Use Study Material Provided by IGNOU for Term End Examinations (TEE)

In order to make the most out of the material provided by IGNOU, here are some tips and tricks for you:
1. Prepare a Reading Strategy
Reading and going through IGNOU study material requires preparing a strategy as the PDFs might seem very long spread across with a number of blocks, units and chapters. The idea is to identify the goal. Is it to look for answers to your assignment? Is it to prepare for upcoming TEE exams? Or is it just a regular reading? In any case, it is a great idea to go through the introduction of each block before starting to read the entire material. The Introduction in each block lists down the important topics and also a summary of the entire block. If your goal is to write assignments, you can easily identify topics you need to delve more into. But if it is to prepare for TEE, check on the main topics and write them down somewhere so that you do not feel lost while reading the different units and chapters. This takes us to our next step for the strategy.
2. Make Notes
Study material at IGNOU is always vast and exhaustive covering a wide range of topics. Many a times students ask where can I find a summarised version to understand better? Or Is it okay if I read wikipedia instead? Well, as part of being in academics and we say this on behalf of entire IGNOU teachers community, we never recommend reading Wikipedia for Term End Examinations. Firstly, there is no proper credibility of sources provided by Wikipedia. Secondly, the idea of higher education is to enhance your knowledge and skills in a subject. The course material expects you to develop expertise so that you could later pick up a profession related to it. Hence, we instead recommend skimming through study material and making notes. If you are a student of social sciences or any other theory subjects, we also recommend the exercise of mind mapping. Mind mapping might appear complicated but it is a great exercise to list down important topics and their subtopics at one place in the form of pointers. It is also proven exercise to improve your memory while grasping large number of content in one go. Nevertheless, making notes in any format, will help you memorize the subject and enhance your preparation for exams.
3. Regular Study Schedule
We all understand that such a large extent of study material cannot be read through in one sitting or short period of time. It is therefore essential that students set out a self discipline study schedule that allots sitting and reading the study material at specific hours everyday. This will not only help you finish syllabus before exams but also give you a chance to not spend much time on each topics when studying for exams. The same also goes for creating a schedule for writing assignments. Assignments submission and evaluation is a big part of academic journey at IGNOU, Significant times goes by trying to figure out answers and writing them. Since the University only pemits handwritten original assignments, the time taken to write them goes away in a jiffy. As soon as you take admission, make sure to check on the last date of assignment and project submissions and accordingly plan your schedule so that there is no last minute rush. Usually, the University extends the last dates for assignment and projects.
4. Stay Organized
When you download the entire study material together, make sure to organise them systematically on the basis of subjects, blocks and units. Also make sure to save your assignment question paper PDFs as well as the written photocopies of assignments together with the study material. The questions that are a part of assignments are usually the important topics of the syllabus and might as well come in exams. Since you have already written answers to them, reading through and revising for exams would become easier.
5. Questions
While reading through the study material, you might come up with questions and doubts. There are also times when you are unable to understand the difference between the two topics and so on. Students feel that distance Universities do not have a provision to ask questions from teachers. However, IGNOU comes up with counselling classes that are held around 3-4 months before the Term end Examinations and are aimed at solving any kind of doubts or questions that come up in students’ mind. If you are not sure about when you’re classes are happening, make sure to check with your study centre. The schedule is also usually put out on the concerned Regional Centre’s website.
