The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the UGC NET Exam across various centres in India on 18th June 2024. A day after conducting the exam, The Ministry of Education (MOE) cancels UGC NET exam on account of receiving reports from the National Cyber Crime Unit of integrity being compromised.
MOE Cancels UGC NET exam
The Ministry stated “To ensure the highest level of transparency and sanctity of the examination process, the Ministry of Education, Government of India has decided that the UGC-NET June 2024 Examination be cancelled.”
The recent UGC NET matter has been handed over to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for further investigation. Fresh date of exams will also be conducted soon as suggested by National Testing Agency (NTA) is their recent tweet. It is also possible that if the exam is announced to be conducted within next two weeks, it may clash with IGNOU Term End Examination (TEE) for June 2024.
Raising Concerns
This report has raised new concerns in the evaluation mechanism of the Education system in the country. The news comes amid after irregularities were reported in National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) UG exam also conducted by NTA. Allegations of irregularities were prompted from Patna, Bihar. This was a lead up on the protests and controversies surrounding reports where 1,563 students received grace marks, and 67 students got a perfect score of 720 on their NEET exam.
Similarly, there were also reports of mass cheating in Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) at an exam center at Buxar district of Bihar.
