When you start the assignment for any particular question, make sure to write the question number and question in a different coloured pen (preferably) black pen to make it easier for evaluation.
While answer the question start with an Introduction. The introduction section provides context and background information related to the assignment topic. It may include a brief overview of the key concepts, objectives, and scope of the assignment, setting the stage for the reader and outlining what to expect in the subsequent sections.
The task instructions section outlines the specific tasks or questions that you are required to address in the assignment. Each task is usually accompanied by clear instructions, guidelines, and expectations regarding the content, format, and length of the response. It is essential to carefully read and understand the task instructions to ensure that they meet the requirements of the assignment.
The content section forms the bulk of the assignment and contains the actual responses to the tasks or questions posed. Students are expected to provide well-reasoned arguments, supported by evidence, examples, and references from course materials or external sources as appropriate. The content should be organized logically, with paragraphs and transitions between ideas. Try not to copy word by word from the study material, instead make your own inferences to score better.
The conclusion section summarizes the main points discussed in the assignment and draws overarching conclusions or implications based on the analysis. It provides closure to the assignment question and reinforces the key takeaways for the reader.
The references section lists the sources cited or consulted in the assignment, following a standardized citation style such as APA, MLA, or Harvard. Proper referencing is essential to acknowledge the contributions of others, avoid plagiarism, and provide credibility to the arguments presented in the assignment.
IGNOU only accepts handwritten copies. Any printed or typed copies are unmarked, rejected or marked as zero.
Each page in your Assignment needs to have a Page number as well as your enrollment number written on it. This helps the University cross check that all pages are intact.
Assignments should be typed or neatly handwritten on A4-size paper, using one side of the paper only. Use double spacing between lines and leave adequate margins on all sides of the page. Avoid decorative fonts, colors, or formatting styles that may detract from the readability of the assignment.
It is recommended to punch and tie thread to each assignment separately instead of using staplers or tapes. Do not use plastic covers.
The Assignment copy for each subject needs to be made separately. Below is the sequence of attachments you need to arrange before submitting the assignment
Prepare a cover page for each assignment, including essential details such as the course code, course title, assignment number, student name, enrollment number, study center code, and date of submission. Ensure that the cover page is attached securely to the front of the assignment. Each Study Centre has a different Front page format. Contact your study centre/ visit their website to get front page. Here are more details:
Take a print of IGNOU Identity Card and attach this as second page for assignment of each subject.
Each Subject has its own assignment question paper that can be found from your IGNOU Assignment Booklet. Print each subject question paper separately and attach as page of your individual assignment copy.
These will be attached after the three documents mentioned above. Even if you have attached question paper, it is recommended to write questions before each response for better results.
If your Regional Centre has asked to submit Assignments offline only, here are the guidelines:

IGNOU assignments are evaluated based on predefined assessment criteria, which may vary depending on the course, subject area, and level of study. While specific assessment criteria are provided along with the assignment tasks or questions, here are some common factors considered in the evaluation process:
The extent to which the assignment demonstrates a deep understanding of the subject matter, including key concepts, theories, principles, and relevant facts.
The ability to analyze, evaluate, and synthesize information effectively, demonstrating logical reasoning, sound judgment, and creative problem-solving skills.
The clarity, coherence, and organization of the assignment, including the structure of the responses, logical flow of ideas, and effective use of language to convey meaning.
The use of appropriate evidence, examples, illustrations, and references to support arguments, theories, and assertions presented in the assignment.
The originality, creativity, and depth of thought demonstrated in the assignment, including the generation of novel ideas, insights, interpretations, or solutions.
The quality of writing, including grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, and overall presentation, as well as adherence to prescribed formatting and citation styles.
To excel in IGNOU assignments and get maximum marks, consider the following tips:
Pay close attention to the assignment instructions, guidelines, and requirements provided by IGNOU. Ensure that you understand what is expected of you and seek clarification if needed.
Avoid procrastination and start working on your assignments well in advance of the submission deadline. Normally you can check your assignment question paper immediately after taking admission or re registration. They are usually uploaded on IGNOU’s official website in advance. The deadline of the assignment is also mentioned on the first page of question paper. Break down your assignment tasks into manageable chunks, create a timeline, and set realistic goals to stay on track. This will also give you more time to check everything before submissions.
Conduct thorough research using a variety of sources such as study material, visit study centre library if needed to have access to textbooks, academic journals, online databases, and credible websites. Gather relevant information, evidence, examples, and references to support your arguments and enrich your analysis.
Structure your assignment logically, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Create an outline or plan to organize your ideas, arguments, and evidence in a coherent and systematic manner.
Engage critically with the assignment questions or tasks, and avoid merely summarizing information or copying facts. Avoid copying from other places. Rather write down your own understanding of the topic. Evaluate different perspectives, weigh evidence, and present reasoned arguments.
Make sure to write in legible handwriting with examples, charts, diagrams wherever possible to achieve the highest scores in assignment. Even when question paper is going to be attached to you response sheet, make sure to still write question before each response so that it becomes easy for the faculty. You can also use black pen for writing questions and blue pens for writing answers to establish clarity in your assignment sheet. Clearly put them together in page numbers.
Take the time to proofread and revise your assignment carefully before submission. Check for errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and clarity of expression. Seek feedback from peers, tutors, or mentors to identify areas for improvement.
Make sure to keep a photostat or printed copy of the assignment you wrote for submission. Most of the questions in the assignment cover around 60-70% of the syllabus. These copies will act as ready made handwritten notes for your exam preparation. You will not regret it !
