The IGNOU grade card provides details about your academic performance, including grades, assignments received and evaluated, marks obtained, and other relevant information for each course or program you’re enrolled in.
Here is how to check IGNOU Grade Card / IGNOU Marksheet Status.
Usually, when your Grade card is complete, the University sends hard copy of IGNOU Marksheet and Transfer Certificate to your postal address. Please note that marksheet is only made and sent by Student Evaluation Division (SED) after all the courses in your Program Grade Card show ‘Completed’. If your Grade Card shows certain ‘Not completed’ for certain section, your marksheet cannot be issued. In case, you have not received your marksheet yet even after completed Grade Card, do reach out to your Study Centre or Regional Centre at the earliest.
The Grading system at IGNOU comprises of a credit based system of evaluating a student’s performance at the Term End Examination (TEE) as well as Term End Practical Examination (TEPE).
Each subject in the programme is allotted a certain number of credits. You can find the credit distribution of different subjects in your programme guide. After evaluation, students are graded on the based on their performance in credits.
Here are further details on IGNOU’s grading system:
In this system , the performance of students is assessed in grade points. Grade Points are allotted in place of percentages from 1 to 10. 10 being the best possible marks and 1 being the ‘needs improvement’ grade. It is further classified into CGPA and SGPA.
In certain cases, students are assigned letter grades for the courses. These range from A to E. A being the best possible marks and E being the lowest.
At the end of every examination, the University prepares a grade card for each student which is a breakup of all marks obtained by a student in every subject. The Grade Card consists of Grade points, letter grades and CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average). Grade card is an official document released by the University. Completion of grade card leads to issue of official marksheet by the University.
In case you feel dissatisfied with your examination results or see any errors in the evaluation system, IGNOU provides a mechanism to recheck your answer sheets. This process is called revaluation and is a very common practice adopted by all the Universities in the country and globally. You can also apply for scanned copy of your answer sheets, if required. According to the process, a student can submit a revaluation application within a particular time period set by the University from the date of declaration of results along with payment of fees. Check the details of the revaluation process here.
