In a recent video being circulated online, students were seen mass cheating at IGNOU exam centre at Buxar district of Bihar. The video shows students opening their books and mobile phones and copying answers in their answer sheets . The students were writing the exams as part of Indira Gandhi National Open University’s Term End Examination (TEE) for June 2024. Currently, IGNOU TEE June 2024 are being conducted all across the country from 7th June to 13th July 2024.
Further investigation on the alleged cheating at the exam centre, it was found out that students were supposed to pay a sum of Rs 3000 (Rs 2000 for theory exam and Rs1000 for practical) each for letting them cheat in the exam.
Raising concerns on Education System
The case of mass cheating at IGNOU exam at Maharishi Vishwamitra College, Bihar has raised questions on the overall education system in the country especially in the state of Bihar. It has also been reported that the alleged centre was suspended for conducting IGNOU exams in 2022 and 2023 and had been selected to conduct this exam after a gap of two years. Bihar was also in news in 2015 when a report of people climbing the school building to pass on answer chits to students during a board exam were out. The case also raises questions on the transparency of examination system in the country.
