IGNOU Program for Agniveers or Defence Personnel: Courses, Admission through Samarth Portal, Last Date to Apply Today

Applications for admissions to courses for Defence Personnel will open soon for January 2025. The last date to apply will be 31st January 2025.

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched an innovative set of courses tailored specifically for the Agniveers of the Indian Air Force (IAF). These courses aim to enhance the educational and skill development opportunities for Agniveers, helping them acquire valuable skills and academic qualifications that can support their career progression within and beyond their service in the IAF.

Overview of IGNOU Program for Agniveers

In August 2023, IGNOU had signed MOU with the Indian Army, the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force for offering skill-based Bachelor degree Programmes to the Agniveers. 

IGNOU has introduced five specialized Bachelor of Arts (Applied Skills) degree programs for the Agniveers, which align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. They are also approved by National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET).  These programs are designed to be flexible, offering multiple entry and exit points to accommodate the dynamic schedules of Agniveers. 

Course Details for Agniveers

The specific programs offered under this initiative are:

1. Bachelor of Arts(Applied Skills)(BAAS):

The programme aims to provide opportunities for higher education leading to the award of B.A (Applied Skills) degree to the Agniveers that would help them in post-service employment and further professional development. 

2. Bachelor of Arts (Applied Skills) Tourism Management (BAASTM):

This course focuses on providing knowledge and skills pertinent to the hospitality and tourism industry. Students learn about tourism management, marketing, and planning, preparing them for roles such as tour guides, travel agents, and hotel managers.

3. Bachelor of Arts (Applied Skills) MSME:

This program is designed to equip students with practical skills and knowledge to manage and grow MSMEs. The course aims to develop competent professionals capable of driving innovation and efficiency within the MSME sector. 

4. BCOMAS (Bachelor of Commerce (Applied Skills):

The program is tailored for students aiming to gain practical expertise in commerce and business management.  By integrating theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience, BCOMAS prepares students for real-world challenges in the corporate and entrepreneurial sectors. 

5. BSCAS: Bachelor of Science (Applied Skills):

This program combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience, covering fields such as biotechnology, environmental science, and information technology. Designed to equip students with industry-relevant skills, BSCAS emphasizes laboratory work, research projects, and real-world applications. 

Documents Required for Admission to IGNOU Program for Agniveers

Before applying for admission, make sure to keep scanned copies of the below documents handy with you with the specific file size. Make sure to scan the original copies NOT photocopies:

  1. Scanned Photograph (less than 100 KB)
  2. Scanned Signature (less than 100 KB)
  3. Scanned copy of 10th pass certificate (less than 200 KB)
  4. Scanned copy of 10+2 pass/equivalent certificate (less than 200 KB)
  5. Scanned copy of the Permission Letter issued by the CO (less than 200 KB)

How To Apply For Admission for Defence Personnel

The admission portal for these programs is dedicated exclusively to Agniveers of the Indian Air Force. Applicants must follow a specific registration process, which includes:

  • Visit IGNOU Defence Samarth Admission Portal here.

  • You will need to first register on the Admission Portal. Click on ‘Click Here for New Registration’ on top left corner of the page. Fill in your details and make sure to add your own email and mobile number because you will receive all communications from the University.

  • Please note that your Your Username should be between 8 to 16 characters and your password should be alphanumeric and between 8 to 16 characters. Click ‘Register’ at the bottom of the page. Your username will be instantly sent to you via e-mail and SMS.
  • You can now come back to the Admission portal and login with your details.

  • Once you login, fill in all details and upload necessary documents.
  • You will get the Form preview option. Please go through each entry in the Preview carefully and make corrections if necessary. Once you submit the application, no editing shall be allowed. Save/Print your form for future reference.
  • You can make payment using Credit Card, Debit Card or Net Banking. After payment, you will receive an acknowledgement slip. Make sure to save the slip for future use and admission status tracking.
  • The application deadline for the current admission cycle is 31st October, 2024.
