Course Delivery

IGNOU Courses

IGNOU’s courses use distance learning methodologies, allowing students to study at their own pace and convenience. Through a combination of print materials, online resources, audio-visual aids, and interactive sessions, IGNOU ensures that learners receive comprehensive support throughout their academic journey. Another key feature of its courses is the extensive network of study centers and regional centers. These centers serve as hubs for academic guidance, counseling classes, practicals, assignment submission and examination administration, bringing education closer to students irrespective of their geographical location.

IGNOU Course Admission Validity

The admission validity of courses offered by the University varies depending on the type of program and the specific regulations set by IGNOU at the time of enrollment. Generally, the validity of admission of IGNOU courses is determined by the maximum duration allowed for completing the program. For most undergraduate programs (e.g., Bachelor’s degrees), the validity typically ranges from three years to six years, depending on the specific program requirements. Similarly, postgraduate programs (e.g., Master’s degrees) usually have a validity period ranging from two years to five years.

It is important for students to complete their courses within the mentioned validity period to avoid any complications or issues with their academic degrees. Course completion includes submitting all assignments, taking practicals, giving all examinations, submitting internship certificate (if any), submitting dissertation or project report (if any) etc. Extensions beyond the prescribed duration may be granted in exceptional cases, subject to certain conditions and administrative procedures, but these are typically limited. You can take up Re-registration for your course during this time.

Students are advised to check the specific validity period for their chosen programs at the time of admission and to plan their studies accordingly to ensure timely completion. You can also find the validity of your course in the Admission Status.

Course Evaluation System

The system of evaluation followed by the University is different from that of conventional universities. The Evaluation system includes:

  1. Continuous evaluation mainly through assignments which are tutor-marked, practical assignments and seminar/ workshops/extended contact programmes etc.
  2. Term-End Examinations (TEE).
  3. Project / Term-end Practical examination.

The evaluation of learners depends upon various instructional activities undertaken by them. Students have to write assignment responses compulsorily before taking Term-End Examinations from time to time to complete an academic course. Term-end examination is conducted at various examination centres spread all over the country and abroad in June and December every year.
