New Delhi, September 27, 2024 — In a historic moment on the popular game show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), Chander Prakash, a student of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), has become the first Crorepati of the 16th season. The 22-year-old student from Delhi made headlines after answering the ₹1 crore question correctly, marking a milestone in the show’s current season.
Chander Prakash, who is currently pursuing a masters degree in political science from IGNOU, is also a UPSC aspirant. He impressed both host Amitabh Bachchan and the audience with his calm demeanor and wide-ranging knowledge. Coming from a humble background in Jammu and Kashmir, Chander faced a number of medical and financial challenges since his childhood.
The ₹1 crore question, which revolved around Indian history, tested Chander’s knowledge of events and figures from the 19th century. With thoughtful deliberation, he chose the correct answer, earning the cash prize of Rs 1 Crore and a Hyundai car. As the first Crorepati of KBC 16, Chander has inspired millions, especially students from IGNOU and other open learning institutions, proving that hard work and dedication can lead to incredible achievements, no matter the circumstances.
