IGNOU’s SOCE to Celebrate National Girl Child Day on January 24

The School of Continuing Education (SOCE) at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is set to celebrate National Girl Child Day on January 24, 2025. The event, organized by the Discipline of Child Development under SOCE, aims to raise awareness about the importance of the girl child in society and foster a spirit of education, empowerment, and community development.

Competitions to Mark the Celebration of National Girl Child Day 2024


As part of the celebration, the organizing team has announced three engaging competitions to promote creativity and encourage participation from the IGNOU community and their families:

  1. Rangoli Competition: A colorful expression of creativity and culture, participants can showcase their artistic skills by creating intricate and meaningful rangoli designs.
  2. Photography Competition: Students are encouraged to capture impactful moments that reflect the theme of empowering the girl child. The competition aims to highlight the role of girls in shaping a better future.
  3. Poetry Competition: Participants can pen down their thoughts and emotions through poetry, focusing on themes of girl child empowerment, education, and equality.

Eligibility and Participation for IGNOU National Girl Child Day Celebration

Entries are open to:

  • All IGNOU students from various courses and programs.
  • Children of IGNOU teachers and staff who are pursuing education at the school or college level.

This inclusive approach ensures maximum participation and provides a platform for showcasing talent across different age groups. The celebration aligns with IGNOU’s commitment to fostering social awareness and inclusive education. By involving students and the families of staff members, the event aims to create a ripple effect in spreading the message of gender equality and the pivotal role of girls in society.

Rules and Guidelines-Participation may be individual or as a team. Maximum of 4 participants are allowed per team.
-Participants must bring their own rangoli materials.
-They are not supposed to bring edible materials.
-Time limit for the competition is 2.5 hours.
-Rangoli should not exceed 4×4 feet.
-Designs must align with the theme

Judgement will be made on the basis of Creativity, Relevance to the theme, Use of Colours , presentation and overall impact. Top 2 entries will get a prize and a certificate. An E- Certificate will be given to all participants.

2. Poetry Competition

-Poetry should be neatly handwritten / typed on a white A4 sheet.
-Poetry should be original and not plagiarised.
-Poetry should be not less than 8 lines.
-Participant needs to certify that the poetry has been written by him/her.
-Submissions must be in English or Hindi only.
-The poetry must align with the theme.

3. Photography Competition

Submission Guidelines-Only Hard Copy (Printed) Submission of Photographs is allowed.
-Each participant may submit one or two (maximum) photographs only.
-Photograph(s) submitted must be of the dimension 8’’x10’’.
-Participant needs to certify that the photograph has been clicked by him/her.
-It is mandatory to give a caption for your photograph.
-Basic editing, including colour enhancement and use of filters, is acceptable, provided any such editing does not affect the authenticity / genuineness of the photograph.
-Advanced editing is not allowed.
-Images taken from internet or generated by artificial intelligence (AI) will not be considered.
-To avoid confusion of identity, mention your name at the back of the photograph.
-Photos that include inappropriate/offensive content, including nudity, violence, human rights/environmental violation, any other contents contrary to the law, religious & cultural traditions and practices of India, are strictly prohibited and will be immediately discarded.
